The GFP considers Academic Advising, which is documented in SU Policies, as a vital role-player in student retention, progression and graduation as well as limiting attrition. GFP students are closely monitored, from registration to the end of the semester, with students at risk, and repeaters being identified early, and targeted for maximum support.
Every semester, each academic advisor is given a student advising list. The academic advising time is already embedded in the advisor’s workload. They record the student meetings’ summary, comments and recommendations in the E Register immediately after meeting with the students in their academic advising list. Academic advisors then follow up from the start of semester with Students at Risk, and repeaters.
Academic advisors also meet regularly with these students to monitor their progress. This has proved to be an effective tool in improving student performances at the GFP.
