Sohar University Successfully completes End of Life Tyre Project for Be’ah Oman

Sohar University successfully completed OMR 20k+ be’ah research consultancy project conducting a quantitative Survey on End of Life Tyres (ELT) Generated in the Sultanate. The University won this project through a competitive bid floated by Oman Environmental Services Holding Co. SAOC - be'ah ' through the Ejaad platform. Earlier, at the Sohar University, Professor Barry Winn, the Vice Chancellor, Sohar University together with Dr Rakesh Belwal, the Principal Investigator and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business signed the contract in January this year.

In a closely held ceremony, the team of students led by Dr Belwal was felicitated with certificates and words of appreciation by Mr Muhannad  Yahya Al Juma, the Manager of Be'ah Academy in the presence of other officials at be'ah headquarters in Muscat. Mr Al Juma appreciated the work done by the Sohar University team and hailed students who participated in this project for their sincere work. He also expressed a desire to visit Sohar University and engage further in their pursuits of environmental conservation in Oman.

“We received support from many quarters in this project in different governorates of Oman”, said Dr Belwal as an expression of gratitude to individuals for their support. Mohammad Al Baluki, the student Research Coordinator in this project was invited to share his experiences. “Students, both boys and girls, learn many things while working on this project that ranges from gaining practical skills in handling the time-bound survey projects to the experience of the rich geography, heritage and culture of the Sultanate of Oman”, said Mohammad. 

 “The purpose of this project was to conduct a quantitative survey of tyre waste generated in different regions of the Sultanate so that be’ah can plan some concrete strategies for environmental protection in this regard proactively”, said Dr Belwal. The research was closely facilitated and monitored by Dr Mohab Ali Al-Hinai, Rahma Al Riyami, Anup Thaliath, and Mary Fuad at be’ah from day one. At Sohar University, the university officials congratulated Dr Belwal and the entire team for successfully completing the project on time.
