Sohar University Celebrates the Omani Women’s Day on 17th October

On Wednesday morning, Sohar University celebrated the Omani Women’s Day, an event that takes place on 17 October every year. This year, the event was organized under the patronage of Ms. Radhia Hassan Al-Lawatia, First Regional Manager of Bank Muscat and it was attended by Professor Barry Winn, the VC of Sohar University and a number of officials, in addition to some female students and employees of the University.
The event started with the operetta of the Omani Women's Day, presented by a group of students from Al-Himbar Primary School. Then, Professor Barry Winn delivered a speech in which he highlighted the University's interest in its female employees and the continuous efforts to developing them. This is in addition to the continuous attention to the university female students who represent the largest proportion of the total number of Sohar University students. Besides, the VC honored the sponsor and the participants of the ceremony.
The event continued with presenting a number of lectures such as a workshop on the challenges facing women leaders working in the Educational Institutions in Oman, presented by Dr. Aida Qasmi, Assistant Professor at Sohar University.
Dr. Hagar Gulab, Associate Professor at the University, also delivered a lecture on women's breaking through the knowledge barriers in the past: Ms. Aisha Al-Riyamiya provided a model. Then, Ms. Rehab Ahmed Qassem, Managing Director and Founder of the” Space” Center for the Development of Omani Women's Talents and Entrepreneurship, gave a lecture on Omani Women and Entrepreneurship in which she provided a presentation of her experience in entrepreneurship. Furthermore, Ms. Laila Al-Jabri, Assistant Regional Manager at Bank Muscat, presented a lecture on the Challenges Facing Women Working in the Private Sector, giving focus to the banking sector. Finally, Dr. Fatima Hassan, Assistant Professor at Sohar University, gave a lecture on women's physical health.
The event concluded with cutting the ceremony cake by the attendees, the sponsor, the VC of the University and the invited guests.
