Locating Resources |

Books in the LRC are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Dewey divided knowledge into ten broad subject categories and gave each of the categories a number starting with 000 through to 900. These categories are then sub-divided. For example the subject category number for technology is 600 to 699 and this includes engineering, business and marketing. To locate a book ask the LRC staff to assist you. You can request a search by author, title or subject. The catalogue entry will give you full details of the book, location on the shelf and loan history. If the book is available check the shelf for it. The books have a classification number followed by the first three letters of the authors surname (family name) printed on a small label on the spine of the book. Books are arranged on the shelves by the classification number and arranged from left to right in numerical order. The shelves are labelled with numbers and subject categories to assist you. Ask the LRC staff if you wish to borrow audio visual resources.
