| Journalism and Media Symposium held at Sohar University |

A symposium on journalism and media has been held at Sohar University. Several speakers from Oman and overseas participated in this one day event. Professor Michael Bromley, the Head of School of Journalism at the University of Queensland delivered the keynote speech on ‘Foreign Correspondence’.
Ali Al Ajmi, an Omani TV presenter, discussed about Omani channels and reasons for the reduced level of audience. Al Ajmi also discussed ways to make Omani channels more appealing to the audience. The city Editor of Times of Oman ,Venugopal Pillai, spoke about ‘Reporting in Oman’. Pillai was accompanied by the Omani reporter Fahad Al Ghadani who also works in the English language newspaper. Ghadani discussed the importance of Omani future journalists to be fluent in both English and Arabic.
Guest speakers from China, Elena McKinley and Gerard Roche, presented on photojournalism and stereotype. Both are with the Xining Normal University in Tibet.
Lecturers and communication students from the Sohar Higher College of Applied Sciences attended the sessions along with English students from the Sohar University General Foundation Programme. Journalism and Communication students at Sohar University had a field day in gathering and disseminating information.
