| SOHAR UNIVERSITY RECEIVED THE AMBASSADOR OF JAPAN |

On the 8th of Feb, 2010 Sohar University received the Ambassador of Japan Mr. Seiji Mori Moto. The event was a part of the activities held in the University for celebrating the Japanese day. Mr. Ambassador was warmly welcomed by the University Vice Chancellor Dr. Abood Al-Sawafi who expressed his true appreciations for the visit which reflected the friendly relations between Sohar University and the Japanese Embassy in Oman. Mr. Ambassador was taken in a tour around the university campus before the start of the ceremony program which was commenced by the VC speech who spoke about the warm relations between Oman and Japan beside his personal appreciation for the Japanese people and their ideal behavior and pointed out that the University is looking forward for more forms of cooperation and partnership with the Japanese Embassy.

Then a poem was recited by the student Fatima Ba- Abad in both English and Japanese languages welcoming the guests. In his speech the Ambassador talked about many subjects, began by expressing his gratitude to the incubation of Sohar University for this annual tradition of the Japanese. He also indicated the depth and extension of relations between Japan and Oman pointing out the similarities that exist between the two peoples as well as some other differences. The Ambassador stressed the increasing economic relations during the year in 2008. He also mentioned the unceasing efforts for increasing the aspects of cooperation between the two countries during the next phase and he pointed out at the end of his speech those Omani students who did their university education in Japan and the fact that they succeeded in adapting themselves in the Japanese environment in short periods of time. Then one of the university academic staff, Sara Butler, talked about her work experiences in Japan and Oman. She explained the great similarities between the two countries in some traditions and customs and That she was so pleasant by both of the experiences.
The Program included presentations of the experiences Dr. Abdallah Al Araimi (Ministry of Information), Dr. Talal Al Balushi (Research Council) and Waddah Mahdhari (Sultan Qaboos University) who travelled and stayed in Japan. All the speakers praised the good habits of Japanese people in addition to their highly organized and smooth life and their great commitment to duties. That was followed by an entraining play performed by a group of students from Sohar University, added an atmosphere of fun and smile between the members of the delegation and the attendance. The end of the program was a film reflected some Japanese traditions and customs.
It is worth mention that there were two sub events organized by the University students; the first one was a minor heritage exhibition for Omani traditional handmade crafts and local dishes while the second event included some magazines, newspapers and other printed materials telling about the Japanese heritages and traditions.
