| Faculty of General Foundation Program :: Program Description |
|
| The role of the Foundation Program is to prepare and equip high school graduates with those skills that would help them qualify for admission into faculty programs. To this end, and in line with the Oman Academic Standards set by the Oman Accreditation Council, Sohar University offers a full-time General Foundation Program (GFP), with a focus on four major areas of academic competence: English, Computing, Mathematics and Study Skills. . |
| The program is tailored to enable students to: |

fulfill English language requirements for entry to Sohar University diploma programs (IELTS 5 or TOEFL 500) |
 |
achieve satisfactory standards of competence in computing (ICDL/IC3 or Cambridge certificate level) and mathematics |
 |
perform well in an academic environment that would require excellent research and study skills.

| GFP is taught in an intensive mode over two semesters plus a compulsory summer term for the very low ability students. |
|
The program comprises of three components: |

English (Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate) |
 |
Maths (SET 1, SET2, SET 3) |
 |
Computing (IC3 Module 1 and IC3 Module 2) |
|
NB (General study skills are embedded and tested all across the syllabi of the above components.) All students are required to sit a basic placement test on joining the program, but an exemption scheme is also available for more mature students or students who have completed foundation in a different institution |
